Song of the Day: Prince (ft. Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Steve Winwood, Dhani Harrison) – “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”

Today marks what would have been the 60th birthday of the late, legendary Prince, who was born on this day in 1958. By now you may have seen this video countless times, but on this day it’s certainly worth bringing out this moment again. This all-star jam from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremonies in 2004 included some serious star power, but there’s no doubt Prince stole the show, to say the least. His dazzling guitar solo starts just after the 3:25 moment in this video and has become one of the most beloved guitar solos of all time in recent years. And you have to love the look on the face of George Harrison’s son Dhani, who seemed to be enjoying Prince’s performance more than anyone. Prince later said in an interview “it was a gas” to perform at the ceremony, saying he was in his element jamming with all the other great rockers.

  1. Hi Captain.
Yeah, it was a good performance with that tribute to brother George Harrison
(praise the lord and pass the sitar)
What’s interesting, also, is that brother Jeff Lynne was there, along with his friend Tom Petty, and…Jeff is by far the most talented creative musician there, and anywhere, for that matter, along with the Beatles.
Both, at the top of all pop/rock in the 20th century.
One of his albums has more that, well, he’s a genius composer, he’s got that ‘gift’ some have.
John Lennon said- 1- ELO, which is Jeff’s band and for which he composed everything, is ‘son of Beatles,’ and, he said, “that’s how we would sound if we (The Beatles were still together.”
Thanks for putting the video here, Captain, hopefully many who have not seen it or don’t know of the guys there, may appreciate classic rock and acts.
    Dig it
