John Henry Bonham Receives Memorial Statue

John Bonham, drummer of the mighty Led Zeppelin, received a fantastic statue on what would have been his 70th birthday. According to Blabbermouth, Sculptor Mark Richards created the statue, which is situated in Bonham’s hometown Redditch, England. The funds for the project were donated by a private donor.

The statue reads: “The most outstanding and original drummer of his time.” The drum kit also sits on artwork inspired by Zeppelin’s Houses Of The Holy. A statement by Bonham’s younger sister, Deborah Bonham, who took to a huge role in developing the project, told the BBC that she was “absolutely thrilled.”

John Bonham is arguably one of the most important drummers in all of music. Bonham died on September 25, 1980 at the age of 32.
