Song Of The Day: Paul McCartney – “Monkberry Moon Delight” (1971)

On this day in 1971 Paul McCartney’s second solo album Ram reached number one on the U.K. charts. Unlike Harrison and Lennon, McCartney didn’t feel the need for any grand artistic or personal statements on the albums that launched his solo career. Instead, his first two albums had a humble, homemade feel and consisted mostly of finely crafted but hopelessly innocuous pop songs, although some have argued that the song “Too Many People” was an unprovoked attack on John Lennon and perhaps wasn’t so innocuous. I always liked this one because it has McCartney showing why he was one of the best and most underrated screamers in Rock.
