Song Of The Day: The Style Council – “My Ever Changing Moods” (1984)

Happy Birthday greetings go out to New Wave pioneer Paul Weller on his 60th birthday today. As front man for both The Jam and The Style Council, Weller rejected the musical philosophy held by most of his Punk/New Wave contemporaries which vilified not just Sixties music but anything that had any complexity or virtuosity to it at all. Weller was and remains deeply influenced by 60s soul music, and throughout his career he has approached the Soul/Rock confluence from so many different and creative angles that it’s become difficult to categorize him. Over the past 25 years as a solo artist Weller has dabbled in electronica, African beats, modern R&B and of course Punk as he pursued variations on his musical mission, and last year’s kick-ass album A Kind Revolution showed that this mission is still going strong.
