Song Of The Day: Martha Wainwright – “Comin’ Tonight” (2008)

Happy Birthday to singer/songwriter Martha Wainwright, who turns 42 today. She’s a very good songwriter with an extraordinary voice, and this track is a fine example of both. At first she coos like a hundred other singers, but then she lets loose with a power and a passion that lifts you right out of your seat. She is definitely the most soulful Rocker of her musical family, which includes her father the curmudgeonly Loudon Wainwright III, her brother the operatic stylist Rufus Wainwright, and her mother the late Kate of the legendary folkies Kate and Anna McGarrigle. This song is from Martha’s best album I Know You’re Married But I’ve Got Feelings Too, a fabulous record that included guest appearances from Pete Townshend, Donald Fagen and Garth Hudson.
