Song of the Day: Dum Dum Girls – “Coming Down”

This melancholy track off the 2011 album Only In Dreams by Dum Dum Girls gained some popularity after its use on the show Orange Is The New Black, but it carries a much deeper meaning for the band’s frontwoman Kristin “Dee Dee” Welchez, who wrote the song about the last days of her late mother. The lyrics are pretty heavy: “I take as much as I can get/I don’t take any regret/I close my eyes to conjure up something/But it’s just a faint taste in my mouth/I think I’m coming down/I think I’m coming down/By tomorrow I’ll be leaving/By tomorrow I’ll gone/If you want to tell me something/You had better make it strong/’Cause I think I’m coming down”.

“I won’t lie; it’s heart on sleeve,” Dee Dee once told Complete Music Update. “Things can be so awful but at least they can also be bliss. Hope you listen to the song and feel something.” (h/t Songfacts.com)
