Song of the Day: Marshall Tucker Band – “Can’t You See”

One of the signature songs of Southern Rock, this classic was the first single off The Marshall Tucker Band’s self-titled debut album, which was released 45 years ago in April. The song charted at No. 75 on the Billboard Hot 100 when it was re-released in 1977, but while it wasn’t a big hit on the pop charts, it certainly is one of the signature songs of Southern Rock. It actually has some pretty dark lyrics at times (“Gonna climb me a mountain, the highest mountain/Jump off, nobody gonna know… I’m gonna find me a hole in the wall/I gonna crawl inside and die/’Cause my lady now, mean ol’ woman lord, never told me goodbye”) but hey, no doubt a lot of people can relate. It’s hard not to like this song, which still gets plenty of play on classic rock radio all these years later.
