Song of the Day: Pixies – “Break My Body”

March marks the 30th anniversary for an album that forever changed rock n’ roll: The Pixies’ Surfer Rosa, which was was released March 21st. Surfer Rosa was among one of the first LPs produced by Steve Albini. Also, it just happened to inspire many artists such as Weezer, Nirvana, Radiohead, the Strokes, Bush, and Blur. “Break My Body” seems to translate into a angry, aggressive sexual mess. This makes sense considering the Pixies attitude and their penchant for creating the music they do. The Pixies took psychedelia, noise pop, hard rock, and surf rock to combine them into something we hadn’t heard — especially in the late 80’s. Surfer Rosa was a true start to something great and it deserves more recognition.
