Song Of The Day: Radiohead – “Fake Plastic Trees” (1995)

On this day in 1995 Radiohead released their second album The Bends, and the first U.S. single from the record was this mesmerizing track. The song marked a huge departure from the band’s first big hit “Creep”, and at a time when grunge was still king Radiohead was signalling that they had a whole lot more going on than just raw, churning guitars. After being repudiated during much of the punk and new wave movements of the 1970s and 1980s, artful Progressive Rock was finally poised to make a comeback, and Radiohead was now positioned at the leading edge of its revival.
