Song of the Day: The Stooges – “Down on the Street”

Here’s a track originally by The Stooges that Patrick Carney of The Black Keys called one of his favorite songs and one of the best rock songs ever written when he played it recently on his SiriusXM radio show “Serious Boredom”. The song is the opener off the 1970 album Fun House and originally wasn’t intended by the band to be the album’s opener, but it was the preference of Elektra Records to put this song first. It’s been covered by, among others, Rage Against the Machine as well as this raucous cover by the unique pairing of Oasis and The Black Crowes. One more note — Carney’s show, if you’ve never listened to it, is a great place to hear some good rock, so give it a go if you have SiriusXM.
