Song Of The Day: Murray Head – “Say It Ain’t So, Joe” (1975)

Let’s wish a big happy birthday to Murray Head, who turns 72 today. Head is a talented singer-songwriter who has wallowed in obscurity for most of the past 50 years, but yet he also managed to hit the big time on two or three occasions. His first big break came in 1969 when Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber picked him to play the lead role of Judas on the original album for Jesus Christ Superstar, and Head’s powerful lusty vocals carried the hit song “Superstar” later that year. Then in 1984 Head had a surprise smash hit with “One Night In Bangkok”. In between the two hits Head released his most notable album Say It Ain’t So in 1975, whose title track remains a bonafide Rock classic that was notably covered by Roger Daltrey in 1977.
