Song Of The Day: Rolling Stones – “Before They Make Me Run” (1977)

On this day in 1977 Keith Richards’ hotel suite in Toronto was raided by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Richards was arrested and charged with possession of heroin with the intent to traffic, as well as possession of cocaine. Although Richards and Jagger had been charged with drug possession before, these charges were the most serious either had faced, clearly endangering the future of the band. It proved to be a turning point for the Stones. Richards decided to seek medical treatment for his heroin addiction, and this not only proved to be a significant factor in preventing him from doing hard time in Canada, it also helped Richards become a more active, creative member of the band again. He wrote this song about the incident.
