What You Need To Listen To: Sunwatchers ‘II’

Brooklyn’s Sunwatchers have always been a welcome surprise ever since their Castle Face records-released, self titled debut, creating a sound of psychedelic prog rock, jazz fusion, and a little garbled nonsense in there for good measure. If I had to try and pin point some sort of influences, names like Thee Oh Sees, The Mars Volta, King Crimson, and instrumental band Arms of Tripoli might be mentioned.

Above is “Herd of Creeps,” a song off their debut. Yes, it’s freeform, but it seems structured and intriguing at the same time. That seems way they want to happen on their new release II. According to NPR –where it’s streaming as the First Listen– Sunwatchers’ second album is combinations of psychedelics, mutant funk, and folk melodies. The album is being released on Trouble In Mind Records on February 2nd. If you like what you hear, you can order here. This is a break from the norm in the best way possible.
