Song Of The Day: Bobby Fuller Four – “I Fought The Law” (1966)

This Rock classic was released on this day in 1966. When it comes to Rock & Roll songwriting, this one is near-perfection: a simple lyric telling a great story with a driving rhythm and an irresistible melody. Little wonder it’s been covered thousands of times and celebrated by generations of punk and garage rockers. The song was written by the great Sonny Curtis who performed it with the Crickets in 1960, but it took the young Texas phenom Bobby Fuller to add some energy and a little Tex-Mex flair to turn it into a massive hit. Fuller was a pretty talented guy, and his mysterious death at age 23 a few months later brought a tragic end to what might have been a very interesting career.
