Song of the Day: America – “Sister Golden Hair”

One of America’s biggest hits, this catchy track was the lead single off the 1975 album Hearts and went on to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Written by Gerry Beckley and produced by George Martin, the song was the first No. 1 produced by Martin that didn’t involve The Beatles. One of the song’s influences is “My Sweet Lord” by George Harrison, which isn’t a surprise when you listen to it. “I very openly tip my hat there to ‘My Sweet Lord,'” Beckley told Songfacts. “I was such a fan of all The Beatles but we knew George quite well and I just thought that was such a wonderful intro.”
