Song Of The Day: Etta James – “I Just Want To Make Love To You” (1960)

Today we remember the late great Etta James, who was born on this day in 1938. In an illustrious 58-year career that ended with her passing in 2012, Etta James ran the gamut of contemporary music styles, from blues to gospel to doo wop to pop standard ballads to Rock & Roll to funk to southern Rock and more, all of it distinguished and made her own thanks to her incredible powerhouse voice. Etta James suffered through all the abuse that all solo female artists did in the 1950s and 1960s, causing her severe substance abuse problems in the 1970s, but by the mid-1980s she re-emerged as a performing and recording artist, earning her the kind of accolades and respect in her later years that was long overdue.
