Jimi Hendrix Shows Us His Take On Muddy Waters’ “Mannish Boy”

In case you haven’t heard, we’re getting a new Jimi Hendrix material. The album is entitled Both Sides Of Sky an will be released on March 9, 2018 and will serve as the end of the musical trilogy that included 2010’s Valleys of Neptune and 2013’s People, Hell and Angels.

With that excitement we now get our first taste of the album through a cover of blues master Muddy Waters’ “Mannish Boy.” The description under the video says, “This previously unreleased recording was the first ever studio session by the group Hendrix would christen as his Band Of Gypsys. It was recorded at the Record Plant in New York, April 22, 1969.”

“He’d do something really silly and stupid and everybody would be cracking up,” engineer Eddie Kramer told Rolling Stone. “He wanted to keep it light. He’d also do it to change it up a bit and inevitably those lines would work themselves into songs, and that’s Jimi’s sly humor.”
