Song Of The Day: Tim Hardin – “Reason To Believe” (1965)

Let’s take a minute to remember the influential American folk singer Tim Hardin, who passed away on this day in 1980 at the tragically young age of 39. He has achieved lasting fame on the basis of only two songs that he wrote, but they are two of the greatest songs in the entire Folk-Rock canon. Most Rock fans are familiar with Rod Stewart’s version of this brilliant song “Reason To Believe”. Hardin’s other big song was “If I Was A Carpenter”, which was seemingly recorded by every Folk artist who ever lived in the late-Sixties. Sadly Hardin was another Rock & Roll casualty who was plunged into the depths of heroin addiction for most of his adult life. But his two great songs will live on forever.
