Song of the Day: Modest Mouse – “Teeth Like God’s Shoeshine”

A lot of people know Modest Mouse for their hit “Float On” from 2004’s Good News For People Who Love Bad News – this includes me too. But that’s not the reason that we’re here. One of the greatest indie albums, Modest Mouse’s The Lonesome Crowded West, turned 20 in November of this year. Isaac Brock, Jeremiah Green, and Eric Judy really hit on something special with the release of the album, which was an eclectic mix of punk, lo-fi, garage, and indie rock. Brock and his high energy angst were rare for the time and helped develop the band a cult following. What’s also above is one of the greatest album into tracks of all time. “Teeth Like God’s Shoeshine” is almost seven minutes of twisted, distorted, strangled guitars, soul-touching slow downs, and exhilarating energies. For a trio this is one hell of an accomplishment and something that deserved to be recognized.
