Song of the Day: Frank Zappa – “Don’t Eat The Yellow Snow” (suite)

Today marks the anniversary of the passing of Frank Zappa, who died on this day in 1993 due to cancer. With winter upon us, it’s proper to engage in the yearly reminder not to eat the yellow snow. Today we’ll include the whole suite (“Don’t Eat The Yellow Snow”, “Nanook Rubs It”, “St. Alfonzo’s Pancake Breakfast”, “Father O’Blivion”), with the title song being the first Zappa track to reach the Billboard Hot 100 (No. 86). The highlight for my money is the swaying “Nanook Rubs It,” where the title character angrily rubs the yellow snow in a “vigorous circular motion” in the eyes of a fur trapper who hurts his favorite baby seal.
