Song Of The Day : The Rascals – “People Got To Be Free”

On this day in 1942 Felix Cavaliere was born in New York. Cavaliere was the organist and one of the lead singers of the Young Rascals, later the Rascals, the band for whom the term “blue-eyed soul” was invented. They were so successful at capturing the authentic sound of Sixties’ Soul and R&B that many people were shocked to discover that they were an all-white band. Much of that has to do with Cavaliere’s fantastic lead vocals, which carried the songs “Good Lovin’”, “Groovin’”, “A Girl Like You”, and this little gem. We think he was one of the greatest vocalists in Rock History.
