Song of the Day: Filthy Friends – “Despierta”

Our writer Rich is a big proponent of supergroup Filthy Friends with a good reason for it. Consisting of Corin Tucker of Sleater-Kinney, Peter Buck of R.E.M., Kurt Bloch and Scott McCaughey of the Minus 5, and Bill Rieflin of King Crimson this group was originally formed in 2012 to preform David Bowie cover songs. We’re not really hear to talk about the history, more as a PSA. Member of the Minus 5 Scott McCaughey has suffered a major stroke and is receiving treatment in San Francisco. In the wake of tragedy Mary Winzing (Scott’s wife) has started a Go Fund Me to help with the steep cost of all the medical bills. The page reads, “He was in ICU for a week and will still need to stay in the hospital for additional days as they work to stabilize him physically. He has also started physical and speech therapy and we have been told that he will require daily speech therapy for the foreseeable future in order to regain his communication abilities.”

The campaign has has already seen 104,000 of 6 days and 1,200 donations. Rock has been kind to us and we can always be kind to rock. As you know anything helps.
