You know names such as Miles Davis, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, and Elton John, but you might not know the name Paul Buckmaster.

Now in mentioning those names you’ve almost certainly heard his works. Buckmaster was the orchestral great who composed and directed for so many. His most notable accomplishments include David Bowie’s “Space Oddity,” Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer,” The Rolling Stones “Moonlight Mile” and “Sway” from Sticky Fingers, Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain,” all the orchestral compositions on Guns N’ Roses Chinese Democracy and The Grateful Dead’s side two of Terrapin Station.

As I said above, Paul Buckmaster has passed away at the age of 71 and it needs to be recognized. He has worked with so many in his storied career-to many to list above. Pay tribute in your own special way. He was a talent that will be missed.

  1. Rest in Peace, brother Paul.
Yeah, I knew of Paul and I wish more people were aware of arrangers, composers and such other talents, other than just the singer or band.
    Paul was a good man.
Actually, a lot of songs were given that push or creative ‘upness’ as I call it, or even that sway or mellowness that
makes the sounds, lyrical and melody wise, well you know what I mean.
    We will remember you Paul…
And all the best to Paul’s family and friends.
    Thanks
