Song of the Day: Marshall Crenshaw – “Someday, Someway”

Happy birthday wishes go out to Marshall Crenshaw, who turns 64 years old today. This track was Crenshaw’s well-acclaimed self-titled debut and went on to become his only top 40 hit. Crenshaw has been compared to Buddy Holly, looks like Buddy Holly on this album cover, and even played Buddy Holly in the movie La Bamba (for which he covered Buddy Holly), but he once told Spinner UK that this particular song is inspired by Gene Vincent. “I was taking basic rhythmic grooves from some of my favorite old rock ‘n’ roll records,” Crenshaw said, per Songfacts. “There was a record that I really loved by Gene Vincent called ‘Lotta Lovin” that had a particular kind of beat to it. It just really did a thing to my nervous system.”
