Song of the Day: The Flying Burrito Brothers – “Wild Horses”

Today marks the birthday of late singer/songwriter Gram Parsons, who was born on this day in 1946. This of course is a song made famous by The Rolling Stones, but its first appearance was on Burrito Deluxe, the second album from Parsons’s country rock group The Flying Burrito Brothers. The Stones didn’t release their version until it appeared on Sticky Fingers in 1971, but Parsons convinced Keith Richards, who he had become friends with, and Mick Jagger to let him perform the song. For me, The Stones hit just the right note with their slightly more melancholy rendition of the song, but this one’s a close second.
