Song Of The Day: Lulu – Oh Me Oh My (I’m A Fool For You Baby) (1970)

Happy Birthday to Lulu, who was born Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie on this day in 1948. She was first signed to Decca Records in 1964 when she was only 15, and she achieved massive success and fame just three years later with “To Sir, With Love”, which was ranked by Billboard as the #1 song of 1967. Well it’s hard to top that, and obviously she never even came close afterwards. But she did hit the charts one more time with this little number, which sounds like just another bland old pop song until she hits the chorus. Her distinctive and irresistibly rough-edged voice backed by the Muscle Shoals band brings this baby home with some real punch.
