Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart Announces Solo Album, Many Musicians Guest, Shares Song With Avey Tare

Mickey Hart, best known as the Grateful Dead’s drummer, has announced his next solo album. It’s called RAMU and it’s out November 10 via Verve Forecast.

The record is being co-produced by Michal Menert (formerly of Pretty Lights). The guest list for the record includes Avey Tare (Animal Collective), Tarriona “Tank” Ball (from Tank and the Bangas), recordings from the late Jerry Garcia and Babatunde Olatunji, and unreleased field recordings by Alan Lomax.

Hart’s RAMU band includes Zakir Hussain on tabla, Oteil Burbridge on bass, Sikiru Adepoju on talking drum, Giovanni Hidalgo on conga, Steve Kimock on guitar, Jason Hann (of String Cheese Incident), and Charles Lloyd. Releasing a statement on the album Hart says, “Donald Trump is a great inspiration—every time I think of him, I write things,” Hart said in a statement. “I can’t tell you how loud I’m screaming and, as a musician, this is how we scream—to shine light on things that are dark, and shine some understanding on life and this horrible human being leading our country.”
