Song of the Day: Fats Domino – “Blue Monday” (Live From Austin, Texas)

We have to give some love to Fats Domino today following his passing earlier in the week. I remember this song way back from when I was just a wee lad; I heard it on one of those commercials for a hits or collection album and remember thinking, “Whoa, what is that?” It reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 back in 1956 and is a timeless track that will get people swaying long after we’re all gone. Not to mention it has a timeless theme people will always relate to — a story of toughing it out through the week to have fun on the weekend, then starting the cycle all over again (Saturday mornin’, oh Saturday mornin’/All my tiredness has gone away/Got my money and my honey/And I’m out on the stand to play/Sunday mornin’ my head is bad/But it’s worth it for the time that I had/But I’ve got to get my rest/’Cause Monday is a mess). This performance took place in 1986 and is available as part of the Live From Austin, Texas DVD or album.
