Song Of The Day: Manfred Mann – “Doo Wah Diddy” (1964)

Happy Birthday to the late songwriter Ellie Greenwich, who was born on this day in 1940. Together with her writing partner and husband Jeff Barry, Greenwich co-wrote some of the biggest hits of the 1960s, including “Be My Baby”, “River Deep – Mountain High”, “Da Doo Ron Ron”, “Leader Of The Pack”, “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” and this little semi-literate number which reached #1 on both the U.K. and the U.S. charts in late 1964. Her musical partnership as well as her marriage ended after only three years in 1966, but her musical legacy, it could be said, lives da doo on on.
