This day marks the birthday of the late Tom Petty, who would have turned 67 years old today. This moving track is off Petty’s last recorded album, Mudcrutch 2, which was released in 2016. The song was accompanied by an equally powerful video, an all-star effort starring Anthony Hopkins with direction by Sean Penn and Samuel Bayer. The song and the video both tell a similar tale of someone coming to terms with their past; Petty sings “I have not been down these roads since I was a child/I ain’t broke and I ain’t hungry but I’m close enough to care/I ain’t broke and I ain’t hungry but I’m close enough to care/Send my things to my niece Dora/She’ll keep ’em over there/I forgive it all, I forgive it all/With her, I forgive it all” while Hopkins’ character drives down the much-changed neighborhoods where he grew up. Hopkins breaks down at the end in a moving scene.
