Song Of The Day: Ike & Tina Turner – “It’s Gonna Work Out Fine” (1961)

On this day in 1976, Ike and Tina Turner officially dissolved their business partnership, bringing to an end a horribly abusive personal relationship and a groundbreaking professional one. When we think of Ike & Tina Turner we usually remember the late-Sixties, early-Seventies revue-style extravaganzas like “River Deep Mountain High” or “Proud Mary”, but people often don’t know about the innovative stuff the duo recorded in the early Sixties. Ike Turner was a pioneer of Rock Guitar styles and is often credited with releasing the first Rock & Roll record “Rocket 88” in 1951, but listen to the guitar on this, their first million-selling single. The prominence of the guitar separated Ike & Tina from other R&B artists, and is more than a bit reminiscent of the rhythm guitar stylings the Beatles would adopt a year later in Liverpool.
