Song of the Day: Jackson Browne – “These Days”

Happy belated birthday wishes go out to Jackson Browne, who turned 69 years old Sunday. This lovely track was written by Browne at age 16 and was first performed by Nico; her version eventually appeared on the soundtrack to the film The Royal Tenenbaums and sounds much different than what the song would eventually become. In 1973, Browne decided to put it on his For Everyman album, about the same time Gregg Allman wanted to put it on his own album, Laid Back. Allman put his own Southern Rock touches on the song and not surprisingly nailed it; Browne thanked Allman for his arrangement of the song in the For Everyman liner notes.
