Bruce Springsteen has a new solo album on the way, and in a new interview with Variety magazine, he sheds some light on what it might sound like.

No release date has been given on the album, but when it arrives, expect it to have a bit of 70s pop style to it.

“Really, that record is influenced by Southern California pop music of the ’70s,” Springsteen told Variety.

Springsteen dove more into exactly what kind of influences inspired him on the new album.

“Glen Campbell, Jimmy Webb, Burt Bacharach, those kinds of records,” Springsteen said. “I don’t know if people will hear those influences, but that was what I had in my mind. It gave me something to hook an album around; it gave me some inspiration to write. And also, it’s a singer-songwriter record. It’s connected to my solo records writing-wise, more “Tunnel of Love” and “Devils and Dust,” but it’s not like them at all. Just different characters living their lives.”

Springsteen’s last release, High Hopes, dropped in 2014. He gave an assurance this new album will arrive eventually, he just doesn’t know when.

“Oh yeah, I’ve just been caught up in other projects,” Springsteen said. “It’s kind of waiting for its moment. Good music doesn’t go away!”
