Tom Petty dies at age 66, per CBS News

Update: TMZ is now reporting Petty has not passed, although he is not expected to survive the day.

Rocker Tom Petty has died at the age of 66 years old, CBS News reports.

TMZ first reported Monday afternoon Petty was hospitalized Sunday night after being found unconscious, not breathing and in cardiac arrest at his Malibu home. The report stated an EMT crew was not able to get a pulse from Petty when they arrived at his home and that Petty was put on life support after being rushed to the UCLA Santa Monica Hospital. Life support was pulled after Petty was found to have had no brain activity, according to the report.

Petty, 66, just wrapped up the 40th Anniversary Tour the Heartbreakers on September 25. Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2002, Petty sold over 80 million albums worldwide and won Grammys for his work with the Traveling Wilburys as well as a solo artist.
