Soul singer Charles Bradley dies at age 68

Charles Bradley has passed away at age 68, according to multiple reports and the singer’s official Twitter account.

Bradley had a unique rise to success as he was discovered at age 62 while performing a James Brown impersonation in a New York club. He went on to release three albums on Daptone Records: No Time for Dreaming (2011), Victim of Love (2013), and Changes (2016).

Bradley was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2016. After completing treatment in May, Bradley cancelled his tour earlier this month when the cancer returned.

“I love all of you out there that made my dreams come true,” Bradley said in a statement on September 9, per SPIN. “When I come back, I’ll come back strong, with God’s love. With God’s will, I’ll be back soon.”
