Song of the Day: Quicksilver Messenger Service – “Edward, The Mad Shirt Grinder”

On this day in 1994, the music world lost famed keyboardist Nicky Hopkins, who passed away at age 50 following complications from intestinal surgery. Hopkins had a long and impressive list of credits during his music career as he played with The Beatles (both as a band and each one of them individually), The Rolling Stones, The Who, Donovan, The Kinks, Jefferson Airplane, Steve Miller Band, Cat Stevens, and Peter Frampton, among many others. Some of the notable songs he performed on include “Jealous Guy” and “Happy XMas (War Is Over)” by John Lennon, “Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)” by George Harrison, “Barabajagal” by Donovan, “Revolution” (Single Version) by The Beatles, and a slew of Stones hits including “Sympathy For The Devil,” “Street Fighting Man,” “Angie,” “Tumbling Dice,” “Monkey Man,” and “She’s A Rainbow.” This track is from his time with Quicksilver Messenger Service — one where he’s not in the background and lets it all loose. Real cool stuff.
