Song of the Day: Eagles – “The Sad Cafe”

Happy birthday wishes go out to Don Henley, who turns 70 years old today. Per Songfacts, this somber yet mellow and soothing song was written about the The Troubadour, the Los Angeles club where Henley met Glenn Frey in 1970. Eventually they became part of Linda Rondstadt’s backing band with Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon, and while on tour with Rondstadt in 1971, Frey and Henley decided to form the Eagles and brought Meisner and Leadon with them. The final track on the 1979 album The Long Run, it was a fitting coda for the 70s era Eagles.
