System of a Down fans eager for the long-awaited new album from the band were given some uncertainty recently when bassist Shavo Odadjian said during an Instagram live session that he didn’t know when the album would arrive.

“I’m waiting for a new album too,” Odadjian said. “It’s not happening, I don’t know. I don’t know when it’s gonna be. Not right now.”

The band has been touring off and on since reuniting in 2010 but hasn’t come out with a studio album since Mesmerize and Hypnotize in 2005. Drummer John Dolmayan said in an interview with Kerrang! in 2016 the band had recorded 15 songs he called “album-worthy,” comments that were later downplayed a bit by frontman Serj Tankian, who told LA Weekly “We’re going to get together and see if that’s going to be SYSTEM music or not. And who the fuck knows? If it is, great, and if it’s not, then great.”

For now, it seems SOAD fans will have to continue waiting, and wondering.
