Song of the Day: Thunderclap Newman – “Something In The Air”

On this day in 1969, this track reached the top of the U.K. charts for a three-week stay. The song is the answer to an interesting trivia question as it’s the only No. 1 track Pete Townshend was a part of, seeing as how The Who never had a No. 1 hit. Townshend was behind the formation of Thunderclap Newman as a vehicle to showcase drummer/vocalist Speedy Keen, who wrote The Who song “Armenia City in the Sky.” Townshend also produced and played bass on this song.
