Song of the Day: Charly Bliss – “DQ”

Charly Bliss’s full-length debut Guppy is one of the most enjoyable rock releases of the year so far, and it’s gotten the reviews to match. This is a track that caught my ear off the album, due in large part to the crazy opening lines:

I laughed when your dog died
It is cruel, but it’s true
Take me back, kiss my soft side
Does he love me most now that his dog is toast?

The DQ in the song stands for Dairy Queen (“I’m too sad to be mean/I’m gonna end up working at Dairy Queen” vocalist Eva Hendricks sings). It’s indicative of what you’ll find on this album — a collection of fun garage rock with a punch. Give this track a listen, and if you’re looking to hear more, definitely check out Guppy.
