A Hip-Hop Hall of Fame seems to be on the way

Those who feel rap music shouldn’t be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame may be pleased to know that rap may soon have a Hall of Fame to call its own, although whether or not that influences the Rock Hall to stop inducting rappers remains to be seen.

As announced last week by the Hip Hop Television Channel, the Official Hip Hop Hall of Fame + Museum to the World won a bid to acquire a site in Harlem for the future home of a Hip-Hop Hall of Fame. The group plans to have Phase 1 of its project open by February 2018.

The plans of the project are ambitious. There will be a $150 million fundraising campaign, and by the time the project is completed, the building could be as high as 20 stories. The plan is that the building will eventually host “the Hall of Fame, Museum, 5 Star Hotel, Retail Mall & Gift Shop, Arcade, TV Studios, Sports Bar, Restaurant & Concert Lounge with a goal of serving up to 1,000,000 local, national, and international visitors annually including music fans, tourists, students, culture enthusiasts, and families on educational & entertainment excursion tours.”

It will certainly be an interesting project to monitor in the future. An artist’s rendering of the building can be seen above.
