Song of the Day: ZZ Top – “Precious And Grace”

Happy birthday wishes go out to drummer Frank Beard of ZZ Top, who turns 68 years old today. This is a track off the band’s Tres Hombres album, and I like how Beard’s thumping beat carries the song along. In a 2013 interview posted on Radio.com, guitarist/vocalist Billy Gibbons picked this song as his favorite from the album, ahead of more well-known classics such as “La Grange,” “Waitin’ For The Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago,” and “Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers.” Gibbons said the song was “another true story in the ZZ Top tradition. We picked up two hitchhiking gals who turned out to be kinda scary, and let’s just say we got out of that one just in time to put it to rhyme. It’s a great reminder of a lesson learned.” Also check out the Queens of the Stone Age cover where the band was joined by Gibbons on guitar.
