Song of the Day: Rolling Stones – Dance (Pt. 1)

Two Rolling Stones celebrated birthdays the past two days, with drummer Charlie Watts turning 76 today and guitarist Ronnie Wood turning 69 on June 1. This disco-inspired track off the 1980 album Emotional Rescue was the song Wood picked in 2012 when NPR asked the band about the standout songs in their catalog. Wood is partial to the song since he co-wrote it. “I stuck up for myself, ’cause I picked a song that I wrote,” Wood says. “I thought, ‘No one’s gonna mention that.’ But I think people, when they hear that song, they love it — because it’s really up, and it gets everyone dancing.” The song reached No. 9 on the Billboard Dance Chart. Some might cringe at the combination of the Stones and disco, but hey, this one works.
