Song Of The Day: Rolling Stones – “Rip This Joint” (1972)

Exile On Main Street, to many people the greatest Rolling Stones album ever made, was released on this day in 1972. Exile was recorded during an incredible six-month spree of debauchery and creativity at Villa Nellcôte, a historic chateau in the south of France. Keith Richards had rented the place, messed up on smack and escaping the taxman, and the others figured the best place to ensure his participation on the new record was to actually move in with him for a while. In a way it was like the Stones’ Get Back, as they dove deep into their blues and country roots like never before, resulting in an album with an amazing range of moods and sounds, surely one of the greatest Rock albums ever made.
