The 10 Best Bands who Played at the Bronze: A Tribute to Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s 20th Year Anniversary

Believe it or not, Slayers and Watchers, the iconic television staple show of the 1990’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer has turned 20. I happen to have just finished re-watching the series, splicing spin-off show episodes of Angel into Buffy’s 7-season span (to watch the co-current time lines, duh). So, you could say I am a pretty big fan. And who wouldn’t be? Joss Whedon, creator, is known for his making his characters relatable, developed and funny amid even the strangest circumstances. Another big reason I like the show is the way I felt every time Buffy, Willow, Angel, Cordelia and Xander found themselves at The Bronze, their too-cool-to-be-real nighttime hangout spot/club in their hometown of Sunnydale. I remember my best friend and I would wistfully sigh and complain that nothing that cool existed in real life.

What made The Bronze so cool? Was it the hip 90’s teen scene, chock full of brown lipsticks, striped sweaters and spiked gel hair? Was it because moody vampires tended to seek solace and companionship there? Yes, yes to both. However, what made The Bronze the coolest was the live entertainment.

Buffy had a way of capitalizing on some of the best sounds of the 1990’s, and here is a list of the ten BEST bands to have actually played during an episode of Buffy at The Bronze. This list does NOT include bands whose music was simply played while a scene took place there; these bands actually set up shop in The Bronze during filming to create a one-of-a-kind atmosphere. And thanks to these acts, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Bronze remain a pillar of cool to be aspired to.

Note: Copywriters must be crawling YouTube for Buffy clips. I couldn’t find hardly anything depicting the scene from the show. Sorry, guys, you’ll have to binge watch like I did to find these gems!

They played Little Fury and Son of Three (Viva) from their record Title TK.
