Happy Birthday to Ben Ayres, guitarist and co-founder of Cornershop, who turns 49 today. Cornershop took the world (US excepted) by storm in 1998 with this song and its magical something that all international hits have. Not the Fatboy Slim remake that many people remember, but this original version which to me always sounded like the revised international version of Lou Reed’s “Sweet Jane”. It was a landmark of sorts, kind of like “Sweet Jane” was, and a harbinger for the global musical cross-pollination that is only just beginning to take hold in the 21st Century
