Song Of The Day: Badfinger – “Baby Blue” (1972)

Pete Ham, lead singer of Badfinger, was born on this day in 1947. His is one of the more tragic stories in Rock. Having achieved their early success under the wing of The Beatles and Apple Records, Badfinger became collateral damage when Apple was ripped apart by weaselly lawyers in the early Seventies. That plus criminally corrupt US management rendered Badfinger bankrupt by 1975, leading to Ham’s suicide that year. But let’s instead remember this man’s splendid contributions to Rock, including co-writing Nilsson’s “Without You”, and writing and/or performing a string of hits including “Come And Get It”, “No Matter What”, “Day After Day”, and this brilliant song, which was given new life in the big Breaking Bad series finale.
