Song of the Day: Buffalo Springfield – “Mr. Soul”

On this day in 1966, legendary band Buffalo Springfield made their live debut at The Troubadour in Hollywood. It was obviously the start of big things for the band as they would then go on to do a quick tour opening for The Byrds and The Dillards, then wound up playing the Whiskey-a-Go-Go from May 2 to June 18 of that year. This track wasn’t around at the time of that first show, but it seemed like a good choice for today anyway. Written by Neil Young, it’s said to be a criticism of fame and stardom that came to be after Young had an epilepsy attack at one of the band’s early concerts and fans questioned whether or not it was all part of the show. The song was part of the Buffalo Springfield Again album in 1967 and was the B-Side of another one of the band’s classics, “Bluebird.”
