Song Of The Day: The Specials – “Gangsters”

Happy Birthday to Terry Hall, the original lead singer of The Specials, who was born on this day in 1959. The Specials led the U.K. ska revival in the late 1970s, introducing the feel-good island bounce to legions of yahoos on both sides of the Atlantic. Gotta hand it to those Brits. In the early Sixties they reinterpreted American R&B to create the British Invasion. In the late Seventies the ska acts did pretty much the same thing, except this time they reinterpreted a Jamaican take on American R&B. To older listeners, the connection was obvious. Oi Oi!
