Song of the Day: Allman Brothers Band – “Statesboro Blues” (Live)

On this day 45 years ago, the Allman Brothers Band played the first of two dates that would wind up leading to their classic live album At Fillmore East. The band was paid $1250 for each show, a tiny sum by today’s standards, of course, but they surely wound up getting a few extra bucks from the sales of the album. At Fillmore East is consistently regarded as one of the great all-time live albums and is a terrific showcase for the band, even if they didn’t originally regard the performance as being that far out of the ordinary. This track in itself is a classic and puts the late, great Duane Allman’s guitar ability on display.
